What to Expect During Your Pet’s Surgery

If your pet has never had surgery before, you will likely have many questions before the procedure about what to expect. Our friendly team is here to address those questions and give you some peace of mind about what to expect before, during, and after surgery. To ensure that your pet has a safe, comfortable experience, we routinely perform the following steps:

  1. Perform a comprehensive physical exam to ensure your pet is healthy
  2. Recommend pre-anesthetic blood test to rule out underlying health issues
  3. Administer the highest quality Isoflorane inhaled anesthesia to minimize anxiety
  4. Electronically monitor pulse and blood oxygen levels throughout the surgery
  5. Administer post-operative medication as needed

What to Expect After Your Pet’s Surgery

When you come to pick up your pet after his/her surgery, we will give you detailed instructions for at-home care, including suture care (if applicable). If any sutures are placed, we will arrange for a future visit to have them removed. Our goal is to ensure that your companion recovers as safely and quickly as possible. Your pet will likely be very sluggish at home, which is perfectly normal. Most pets are back to normal within 24 hours after surgery. If possible, keep a close eye on your pet after surgery during recovery, and feel free to give us a call if you have any concerns. The team at Veterinary Medical Center in Studio City would be happy to help. We want your pet to go back to chasing Frisbees or watching birds, just like you do!
